Adani Gets 1,050 Acres in Bihar for ₹1 Lease: Congress Labels It ‘Double Loot Government’
A major political controversy has erupted in Bihar after reports emerged that the Adani Group has been granted 1,050 acres of land on a 33-year lease for just ₹1 to establish a power project.
Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera has strongly criticized the move, stating that the electricity produced from the plant will be sold at ₹6.75 per unit, a rate that could burden common consumers.
Khera further alleged that the Modi government has permitted the felling of over 1 million trees on the leased land. He labeled the Bihar government not as a “double engine” but rather a “double loot” government, indicating corporate favoritism.
The ₹21,400 crore project aims to generate 2,400 MW of electricity and is being developed by a company reportedly close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Additionally, ahead of PM Modi’s rally in Bhagalpur, heavy security has been deployed to prevent protests by displaced farmers. Initially, the power plant was proposed under state government infrastructure plans, but it has now reportedly been transferred to the Adani Group.
Critics allege this amounts to land grab, deforestation, and overpriced electricity, raising serious questions about transparency, environmental impact, and the welfare of local communities under the so-called double engine government.
