Aliah University in Crisis: Government’s Neglect of Education Exposed
Once again, it is evident—the government has no real intention to improve Aliah University, the only state university for minorities in West Bengal. The ongoing financial crisis clearly reflects its anti-education mindset.
The “Other Grants” for daily expenses are being withheld, forcing the university to cover costs from its own funds—electricity bills, transport, staff salaries, and lab expenses. This reflects sheer negligence towards education.
Education is not a luxury—it is a fundamental right. Yet, with grants stopped, no new faculty appointments, reduced research funding, and operational hurdles, the government cannot claim to be education-friendly. This is a direct assault on higher education.
Aliah University is more than an institution—it is the sole hope for higher education among minorities. Destroying it means jeopardizing the future of an entire community.
A truly education-friendly government would increase grants, appoint faculty, invest in infrastructure, and support research. Instead, the opposite is happening. Repeated actions suggest the government deliberately wants to weaken Aliah University, ensuring minorities remain behind.
By slashing education budgets, the government’s hidden message is clear: “You don’t need education.”
Destroy education, and you destroy a society. Today’s decisions signal precisely that. Cutting funds to education means cutting off the dreams of tomorrow.
