Azam Khan Walks Free After 23 Months: A Political Comeback That Could Reshape UP Politics

Senior Samajwadi Party leader and influential Rampur politician Azam Khan was finally released from Sitapur Jail on Tuesday after spending nearly 23 months in custody.

Thousands of supporters gathered outside the prison to welcome him, chanting “Azam Khan Zindabad”, waving flags and holding banners in celebration. The atmosphere was electric — more a festival than a formal release.

Though Khan had secured bail earlier, bureaucratic delays and procedural hurdles prolonged his incarceration.

He avoided media interactions and immediately left for his hometown Rampur upon release.

SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav stated:

"The charges against Azam Khan were politically motivated. His release is a triumph of justice."

Now, all eyes are on whether Azam Khan will return to active politics — and if so, will he continue with the Samajwadi Party or chart a new political path?

It’s important to note that several legal cases against him are still pending. Opposition parties are expected to maintain a firm stance against him.
