Badruddin Umar: the unparalleled philosopher from Bardhaman.
He studied at Bardhaman Town School and Bardhaman Raj College. Throughout his life, he engaged in continuous, objective, and intellectual discourse on contemporary society and culture, leaving behind invaluable insights. His stature is not only rare in Bengal or the subcontinent but also among the world’s thinkers.

Yet, time and again, I feel the closest parallel to Umar can only be found in Jean-Paul Sartre. Both shared certain remarkable qualities—especially an ever-awakened mind and the rare ability to repeatedly reassess their own positions.

However, Umar had one added strength—he was directly engaged in practical politics, yet never driven by personal interests. This is what elevated him to an even greater height.
