C.P. Radhakrishnan Sworn in as the 15th Vice President of India

Bongo Darpan Online: C.P. Radhakrishnan was sworn in on Friday as the 15th Vice President of India. At 10:10 am, President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and several members of the Union Cabinet.Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar was present at the ceremony with his wife — his first public appearance since resigning on July 21. Another former Vice President, M. Venkaiah Naidu, was also in attendance.Dhankhar’s resignation due to ill health before the end of his term made the vice-presidential election inevitable. In the election held last Tuesday, NDA-backed candidate and former Maharashtra Governor Radhakrishnan contested against the opposition INDIA bloc-supported candidate, retired Supreme Court Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy. In the counting, Radhakrishnan secured 452 votes, while Reddy received 300 votes.Radhakrishnan will serve as Vice President for the next five years. By virtue of the office, he will also serve as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. During Dhankhar’s tenure, the opposition had accused the Vice President of bias. This time, they expect impartial conduct from the new Vice President.Key Points:
