Crackdown on Infiltration: Centre Orders Detention Centres in Every State
The central government has taken a tougher stance on infiltration. Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day address from the Red Fort, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued fresh guidelines imposing strict restrictions on foreign nationals. Along with that, every state and Union Territory has been directed to set up detention centres.
As per the new rules, foreign nationals accused of anti-national activities, espionage, rape, murder, terrorism, child trafficking, or association with banned organisations will not be allowed entry or stay in India. Even those entering with valid visas cannot work in private entities in power, water supply, or petroleum sectors without government approval.
Filmmaking, documentary production and promotion, mountaineering expeditions, and entry into restricted areas will now require mandatory written permission from the Centre. Citizens of Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan will not be allowed into such areas under any circumstances.
The government has also placed restrictions on leaving the country. In cases where national interest, court orders, or diplomatic relations with another country may be affected, a foreigner can be barred from exiting India. The Bureau of Immigration will prepare a list of such foreigners.
Under the newly enforced Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, all states and Union Territories have been directed to establish detention centres. Any foreign national caught illegally staying or engaging in unlawful activities in India will be held in these centres until deportation.
