Fire in Nepal Hotel: Indian Woman from Uttar Pradesh Killed
Kathmandu, Nepal: An Indian woman lost her life in a hotel fire in Nepal amid ongoing protests. The deceased has been identified as Rajeshdevi Gola, a resident of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Her husband, Rambir Singh Gola, was seriously injured.According to family sources, Rajeshdevi and Rambir had arrived in Kathmandu on 7 September and had booked a hotel stay. They had planned a one-week trip. However, before returning to India, protesters in Nepal reached the hotel and caused destruction.n Kathmandu, protesters vandalized and set fire to government buildings, including the presidential palace, and also attacked hotels. The couple was staying on the fourth floor of the hotel. In panic, they tried to descend by tying bedsheets and cloth into a rope. During the attempt, Rajeshdevi fell from the makeshift rope, sustaining fatal injuries and died at the scene. Rambir was hospitalized with serious injuries.The couple’s son, Vishal Gola, stated, “After visiting the Pashupatinath Temple, my parents were resting in the hotel on the night of 9 September. Around 11:30 PM, protesters entered the hotel and set it on fire. They were trapped on the fourth floor. While trying to descend using a rope made of bedsheets, my mother fell. Later, an army jeep arrived and rescued them.”Ghaziabad’s Additional District Magistrate, Saurabh Bhatt, said that necessary steps are being taken after receiving news of the Indian couple. Full assistance is being provided to bring the woman’s body back to India.This is the first incident of an Indian citizen’s death due to the protests in Nepal.
