From Judge to Leader: Ex-BHU Student Sushila Karki Set to Become Nepal’s Caretaker PM
Special Report – Online Bangadarpon:
Nepal stands on the verge of a major political shift. Backed by the army and responding to the protesters’ demands, former Chief Justice Sushila Karki is set to become the country’s caretaker Prime Minister.
In 2016, she made history as Nepal’s first woman Chief Justice. When she took on the Oli government over corruption, an impeachment motion was brought against her. But mass protests forced the government to withdraw it.
An alumna of Banaras Hindu University with an MA in Political Science, Karki returned to Nepal to pursue law and social work. Even after retirement, she remained active through writing and public engagement.
According to recent reports, after discussions with the military, Sushila Karki has agreed to assume the caretaker role—ushering in a new chapter in Nepal’s political history.
