Frustration and Expectation

Youth is the freshest and most valuable resource of society. Young people are the most hardworking and capable of participating in social service. They neither have hesitation nor unnecessary caution before taking action. When the nation and humanity demand blood and struggle, it is the youth who step forward first—history holds countless examples of this. But looking at the present state of the youth, will their glorious history be lost in the abyss of time? Will we lose the youths of Sukanta’s “Eighteen Years” or Nazrul’s “Song of the Student Troop”? This is indeed a disappointing aspect.

At present, the youth are spending a large part of their useful time behind online games, browsing Facebook, indulging in unwanted chatting, or misusing mobile phones. Instead of building their lives, they are getting lost morning, evening, night, and day—and this is bound to affect the country’s economy as well. Altogether, a dark cloud of deep despair is gathering in the minds of thoughtful people.

However, there is hope. A nationwide group of young people, the All India Solidarity Movement, is carrying out campaigns across India against online games, gambling, and the misuse of various websites. They are pressing the government to take steps against online games, gambling, and destructive sites. They are organizing street-corner meetings, round-table conferences, intellectual gatherings, and deputation programs at police stations. In other words, the youth themselves have stepped forward to guide other youth onto the right path. Amid despair, this is indeed a remarkable and transformative expectation
