ISF Demands Immediate Appointment of TET Qualifiers, Condemns Police Action
Press Statement (Indian Secular Front):
The TET examination for primary teacher recruitment was last held in 2022. Despite candidates qualifying, the state government has yet to conduct interviews or finalize appointments. Aspirants have repeatedly appealed for merit-based recruitment through interviews, but their voices remain unheard.
It is important to note that unlike other recruitments, there are no pending litigations regarding the 2022 TET. The government simply needs to hold interviews and publish the merit list. Instead, unnecessary delays have pushed nearly 50,000 successful candidates into deep frustration.
According to Bikash Bhavan’s survey, out of 49,368 primary schools across 22 districts, 2,215 schools either have no teachers or only one. Consequently, many children are dropping out of school, pushing poor and marginalized families toward a bleak future.
Today, TET qualifiers staged a peaceful protest in front of the Assembly in Kolkata. However, police dragged several aspiring teachers into prison vans. The Indian Secular Front strongly condemns such undemocratic action and demands the unconditional release of all detainees.
ISF further urges the state government to immediately conduct interviews, appoint qualified candidates, and take proactive measures to strengthen primary education in the state.
