Islamic Emirate Delegation Visits Austria for Political and Consular Talks
Kabul, September 14, 2025 — A delegation from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, under the Islamic Emirate, has recently visited Austria for high-level discussions.
Reliable sources confirmed that the delegation held meetings with officials from Austria’s Foreign and Interior Ministries. The talks mainly focused on Afghanistan’s political representation abroad and the provision of consular services for Afghans living overseas.
Political analyst Fazal Minallah Mumtaz said: “The Islamic Emirate’s main goal is to reopen consulates and embassies, address the challenges faced by migrants, and ultimately seek international recognition.”
This is not the first time Islamic Emirate diplomats have traveled to Europe. Delegations previously visited Switzerland and Germany. Although these visits do not signal formal recognition by European countries, analysts believe they could pave the way for further engagement.
Political expert Khalil Ahmad Nadim noted: “European countries have their own interests, and Afghanistan has its own challenges. The Islamic Emirate is trying to create opportunities for engagement with European states.”
Meanwhile, international relations expert Wahid Faqiri described the trip as a “positive development” that may benefit Afghanistan in the long run but added: “In my view, it will not be enough to end Afghanistan’s overall isolation.”
Last month, sources from the Foreign Ministry confirmed that another Islamic Emirate delegation visited Switzerland, where they met with officials from the Foreign Ministry and other institutions to discuss political issues, including the launch of consular services for Afghans living there.
