Israel closes airspace over Ramon Airport after Houthi drone attack

The Israeli Airports Authority announced on Sunday the closure of airspace over Ramon Airport in the south of the country to air traffic, without giving a reason for the closure.

The Ynet news site quoted the Israeli army as saying it is investigating a report about a drone crash at the airport. The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that two people were injured after a drone launched from Yemen fell in the Negev region in southern Israel. The Israeli army stated that a drone launched from Yemen fell in the area of Ramon Airport, but no sirens were sounded.

Earlier, the army said its forces had successfully intercepted three drones launched from Yemen toward Israel, two of which were intercepted before entering Israeli airspace.

Also earlier today, Israeli military sources told the Times of Israel newspaper that three drones launched by the Houthis in Yemen toward Israel were detected over Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

The Houthis have launched numerous drones toward Israel since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip.
