Massive Protest in Kolkata in Solidarity with Palestine – Strong Condemnation of Israel’s Plan to Establish Full Control Over Gaza
Kolkata: A massive protest rally and convention was held today in Kolkata to express solidarity with the people of Gaza and denounce Israel’s ongoing aggression. Speakers at the event warned that any attempt by Israel to impose full military or political control over Gaza would only worsen the already catastrophic humanitarian crisis in the besieged territory.
Thousands of people from across the state joined the demonstration, cutting across religious, ideological, and social divides. Citizens, students, community leaders, political representatives, and civil society activists participated, sending a powerful message that solidarity with Palestine is not confined to the Muslim community but is a shared cause for all who believe in peace and justice.
Speakers condemned Israel’s actions as an “ongoing genocide,” pointing out that since October 2023, nearly 100,000 Palestinians—mostly women and children—have been killed. Homes, hospitals, schools, and refugee camps have been systematically destroyed. The blockade has triggered famine-like conditions, collapse of healthcare, and a breakdown of sanitation systems, raising fears of a looming mass starvation.
The protesters’ key demands included:
-
The Government of India must immediately condemn Israel’s actions and suspend all forms of military and strategic cooperation.
-
India should uphold its historic tradition of standing with the oppressed and actively support international efforts to end the illegal occupation.
-
Urgent humanitarian corridors must be opened to allow food, water, fuel, and medical supplies into Gaza.
-
The international community must take firm action and sever military and economic ties with Israel.
-
Indian civil society and institutions must intensify awareness campaigns, boycott Israeli products, and expand peaceful solidarity initiatives.
The protesters also called upon Muslim-majority nations to exert maximum pressure on Israel and the United States to halt the bloodshed. They stressed: “Silence in the face of genocide is unacceptable. Governments, institutions, and individuals alike must fulfill their moral and constitutional duty to act.”
