Nepal in Turmoil over Corruption & Social Media Ban!

Special Report: Nepal in Turmoil over Corruption & Social Media Ban!

Parliament Gate Set on Fire, Curfew Imposed, Death Toll Rises to 19

Nepal is witnessing unprecedented unrest. Thousands of youths have surrounded the Parliament building in Kathmandu, protesting against corruption and the government’s social media ban. Moments ago, protesters set fire to one of the Parliament gates. The government has imposed a curfew, and reports of firing have emerged. The death toll has now risen to 19.

Tensions had been brewing for days, but today the situation has turned critical.

Protesters allege that corruption has skyrocketed under the current government. The term “Nepo Baby” has gone viral, aimed at the lavish lifestyles of politicians’ children. The ban on social media has only fueled public anger, pushing thousands onto the streets.

Though the movement lacks a single political leader, Kathmandu’s independent Mayor and singer Balen Shah has emerged as a key figure. Former Prime Minister and Maoist leader Prachanda, as well as Communist Party leader Netra Bikram Chand (Biplav), have expressed solidarity with the protesters. Former PM Madhav Nepal of the Unified Socialist Party has also extended support.

Left-wing youth groups are actively mobilizing on the streets, while pro-monarchy right-wing groups are also trying to influence the uprising. With both left and right forces involved, Nepal’s political situation is becoming increasingly complex and unpredictable. The coming days will be crucial.
