Netanyahu’s Announcement: “This is our land, there will be no Palestinian state”
Bong Darpan Online Desk:Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday signed a new expansion plan at Ma’ale Adumim, an Israeli settlement in the West Bank. Under this plan, thousands of new settlements will be built—on land that Palestinians have long demanded for the establishment of their future state.During the settlement visit, Netanyahu made it clear:“There will be no Palestinian state under any circumstances. This land is ours. We will protect our heritage, land, and security, and we will double the city’s population.”It is noteworthy that just last month, final approval was granted for the controversial ‘E1’ project. If implemented, the West Bank will effectively be split into two parts and cut off from East Jerusalem. In response to Netanyahu’s statement, Palestinian leadership expressed strong opposition. Hussein al-Sheikh, deputy head of the Palestinian Authority, wrote on social media:“The course of history cannot be changed through force and military coercion. No one can stop the Palestinian people from their struggle for freedom, self-determination, and the establishment of a state.”He further stated that any Israeli plan or action of occupation will eventually fail. With the support of allies and friends around the world, the Palestinian people will achieve their legitimate national golas .Context:
Israel’s settlement expansion policy has long been criticized internationally. In particular, the ‘E1’ project is seen as one of the biggest obstacles to the peace process, since if it is implemented, the possibility of making East Jerusalem the capital of a future Palestinian state will be severely undermined.
