Bongo Darpan Online Desk:
Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki has been proposed as the interim Prime Minister of Nepal by the ongoing Gen-Z protestors. After a meeting with the protesters, Nepal Supreme Court Bar Association’s Secretary Ramankumar Karn confirmed this information, according to Hindustan TimeAlthough the protesters have proposed Sushila’s name, it is still uncertain whether she will ultimately become the head of the interim government. In a meeting with Army Chief Ashok Raj Sigdel, the protesters presented their demand and recommended 73-year-old Sushila as interim Prime Minister. The protesters believe that since she is outside the political sphere and regarded as a prudent figure, she enjoys wider acceptance. Sushila Karki is the only woman in Nepal’s history to have served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. If the Army Chief accepts the proposal, she will make history as Nepal’s first female Prime Minister.Sushila’s husband was associated with Nepal’s Youth Congress, but she herself has remained outside active politics. After completing her master’s degree in political science from Banaras Hindu University in India in 1975, she began her career as a lawyer in Biratnagar in 1979, while also working as an assistant teacher. In 2009, she was appointed as an ad-hoc judge of the Supreme Court and later became Chief Justice.Meanwhile, after continuous unrest in Nepal, the situation has now become somewhat controlled. Alongside the deployment of the army nationwide, the duration of curfew and various restrictions has been extended.
