Press Conference in Kolkata Voices Strong Support for Palestine
Kolkata:
At a press conference held today in Kolkata, representatives of civil society, students, religious leaders, and political activists condemned Israel’s aggression in Gaza and its plans to establish full control over the besieged territory.
Speakers stated, “The ongoing military assault in Gaza amounts to a genocide. A vast number of women and children have already been killed, while hospitals, schools, and refugee camps are being systematically targeted.” They warned that any attempt to impose military or political control over Gaza would only deepen the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe.
During the press conference, five key demands were raised:
-
The Government of India must immediately condemn Israel’s actions and end all military and strategic cooperation.
-
India should uphold its long-standing tradition of supporting the oppressed and actively participate in international efforts to end the illegal occupation.
-
An urgent humanitarian corridor must be opened to allow the entry of food, water, fuel, and medical supplies into Gaza.
-
The international community must take firm action and sever military and economic ties with Israel.
-
Indian civil society and institutions should intensify awareness campaigns, boycott Israeli products, and organize peaceful solidarity actions.
The press conference also called upon Muslim-majority countries to exert maximum pressure on Israel and the United States to stop the bloodshed. Speakers emphasized that silence in the face of genocide is unacceptable and urged governments, institutions, and individuals to act in line with their moral and constitutional responsibilities.
