Pride for India: Safina Husain’s ‘Educate Girls’ Wins Asia’s Highest Honour

Report:
It is a proud moment for India as Safina Husain, a lifelong campaigner for girls’ education, has been honoured with Asia’s most prestigious recognition for her tireless efforts to bring out-of-school girls back into classrooms.

Husain, the founder of the non-profit organization Educate Girls, has dedicated her life to fighting for the rights of girls in rural India. Through her initiative, thousands of girls who had once been denied education have now been enrolled in schools, opening the door to new opportunities and empowerment.

Educate Girls works at the grassroots level in some of India’s most marginalized communities, where child marriage, poverty, and social barriers often prevent girls from studying. The organization mobilizes local volunteers, trains community leaders, and works with families to ensure that every girl gets the right to learn.

While receiving the award, Safina Husain dedicated the honour to “millions of girls who are still waiting for the chance to go to school.” Her recognition is being celebrated as not just a personal victory, but a victory for every Indian who believes in equality and education.

This achievement has placed India’s commitment to gender justice and inclusive education firmly on the global stage.
