Trump Demands Return of Bagram Airbase in Afghanistan, Taliban Rejects the Proposal
After the U.S. military's withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, former President Donald Trump is now calling for a return of the Bagram Airbase, one of the most strategic military sites in the region. Trump argues that the airbase is crucial for countering China's growing influence and maintaining military surveillance in South-East Asia. The Bagram airbase, with its 3,600-meter-long runway, can accommodate cargo planes and bombers, making it a vital asset for U.S. military operations. However, the Taliban has firmly rejected this demand, stating that Afghanistan will not allow foreign troops to re-enter its territory. In a social media post, Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zakir Jalal emphasized that while Afghanistan seeks diplomatic and economic ties with the U.S., it will not host American military forces again.
